Drum Roll Please..

GUYS! I am BACK. I am so excited to have another reason to start blogging again. I grew to love my nightly (or semi-nightly) updates. It is just like my own diary…that all of you read and judge…

Well.. you get the point.

Anyways, I am about to head to Kentucky and Mississippi for 6 weeks of training and orienting. For those of you who may not know, I will be serving as a Teach for America Corps Member in Eastern Kentucky for two years. I am excited, nervous, anxious, happy, and thoroughly unprepared for this next chapter in my life. I say “unprepared” to convey the fact that I really had no idea I wanted to teach until I went to Tanzania last June (see previous posts for more info on all of THAT)! I cannot believe it has been a whole year since that experience – I actually just teared up a lot. Pause for emotional reflection..

I hope that for those of you who do not know who/what TFA is, you’ll check out their funky fresh website for lots of cool information. Stay informed, people.

Also, to all teachers out there reading this, feel free to comment below with any advice you may have. This can be in the form of quotes, lesson planning websites or ideas, personal and self written tid-bits of advice, or whatever else might be useful to this very, very new teacher.

I am going from mwalimu (“teacher” in Swahili) to full fledged, PRAXIS approved, American teacher. Like I said before, I am feeling every emotion on the emotional spectrum right now, so send some good vibes my way.

Here’s Teach for America’s slogan. I love it, and hope it resonates with you as well.

“One day, all children in this nation will have the opportunity to attain an excellent education.”

Until next time,

Halie
